Moon Cakes ! Moon Cakes !
It's mooncake day again !
Last year mooncake flavour
still lingers in my tongue;
How can I not taste them this year ?
There's one with red bean paste:
one with lotus seeds,
one with double- egg yolk,
all make my mouth water!
I mustn't forget to give some away
to neighbours and friends;
uncles and aunties near by.
They'll return mooncakes for mooncakes !
For lunar eve dinner,
we eat white- cut chicken,
with cabbage leaves afloat the soup.
No more fried fish and kankung;
No, not on this lunar eve !
Let's bring out those lanterns
and hang them round the veranda.
Light them and watch them flicker
beneath the full moon of September.
